Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF EACH PIECE?
Each sod roll is 9 square feet.
More specifically, our Fescue roll is 2 feet by 4.5 feet and our Zoysia roll is 18 inches by 6 feet.
HOW DO I FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH SOD I NEED?
Divide the yard into rectangles where possible. Measure each area’s length and width in feet. Multiply the length times the width to get the square footage. Do the same to all of the sections and then add them all together to get the total square footage.
HOW DO I PREPARE THE SOIL FOR SOD?
The soil should be graded as smooth as possible with good positive drainage. Also, the sod should be lightly fertilized before installation and laid on bare soil.
HOW DO I INSTALL SOD?
Sod should be installed with the joints staggered. Run a perimeter roll along all edges. Water the sod and press it down to ensure soil-to-soil contact.
HOW MUCH WATER DOES THE NEW SOD NEED?
Water the sod promptly after laying it. It should not be exposed to the sun more than 30 minutes before you start to water it. The first watering should soak through the soil to a depth of two to three inches. Then, the turf should be watered at least once a day for 20-30 minutes to re-wet the soil for about two to three weeks until the sod has rooted in. After that, water if there are any signs of stress.
HOW DO I FERTILIZE THE SOD?
Cool-season sod (fescue) should be fertilized three to four times a year with any spring or summer application containing slow-release nitrogen. Warm-season sod (zoysia) should only be fertilized from May to August.
DO I NEED TO CALL AHEAD TO PICK UP SOD?
Yes, to assure the freshest product, we only harvest sod for the orders we receive. Therefore, we need to know how much you want and when you need it. Be prepared to load your own sod. However, if our men are here, we will be happy to help.
HOW MUCH NOTICE DO YOU NEED TO SET UP A DELIVERY?
One days’ notice is best but, sometimes same-day requests are acceptable. The delivery times depend on our truck scheduling. The more notice you give us, the better are your chances of getting it when you need it.
HOW IS SOD UNLOADED?
When delivered, each truck has a lightweight forklift. Our driver will place the sod wherever you would like it, as long as it is safe to do so and we have sufficient room to maneuver the forklift.
